Get Satisfaction is an awesome site devoted to providing a platform for companies, as well as the people who use their products, to provide (and share) support for their products. It’s a top notch approach to customer service that does a great job at leveraging current technology as well as current social community behavioral trends [...]
Note the bars on the inside of the cage, making it impossible to actually put an air conditioner in the cage. As an aside, I was imagining that keeping a wild animal in that cage might make for an exciting local attraction.
Hope you never need to use the basement hatch for anything.
This is an example of the risk you always run when you let your users run wild without a sense of controlled (or suggested) vocabulary. Here we’ve got lots of what looks like usernames and a bunch of gobbledygook - neither of which is particularly useful to the rest of the community.
Don’t let that discourage [...]
Weather Underground has been my go-to source for weather on the web for the past 5 years ever since my buddy Gabe introduced me to it. At first the site felt way too information heavy for me but after giving it a chance I’ve grown to love all that data, partly due to the care [...]
A colleague at work recently pointed me to Newsvine’s concept of “vineacity.” For them, “vineacity” is a quantifiable measure of your behavior on and relationship to, the Newsvine community.
That behavior boils down to 6 key metrics that get represented as branches on a, you guessed it, vine. These vine icons, concisely denoting varying degrees [...]
This is how my friend Sara dealt with the “hassle” of resetting her clock for Daylight Savings Time.
I wanted to highlight Apple’s subtle way of enhancing their data presentation. The iGoogle themes that change according to the time of day is another great example of this. What can you do to make your design feel more “alive”?
Also, if you know of other examples, please drop them in the comments. Thanks!
I got to see one of these while I was up at Nokia this week. Back at ITP I remember being so envious of the quality of photos these odd-looking little devices devices would take. I really love this as a design artifact because of the way its a total design mashup of past and [...]
Everything about how Apple chose to introduce Home Screen customization (and teach people how to use it) really captured what Apple gets and so many people completely miss.
Clear instructions, followed by the icons going from dormant to “wiggly” is just an excellent example of a well-executed, playful user experience.
This action gave me the same satisfaction [...]
The best top to a To Go coffee cup I’ve ever encountered was found at the awesome Grey Dog’s Coffee. No longer are you faced with a “no turning back” approach to opening your coffee. Instead you can open and close your coffee at will should you come across a bumpy patch on your way [...]
