I recently came across Tonight.im, a clever little mashup that takes my data from my Withings Scale (highly recommended internet-connected scale) and maps it to my foursquare (highly recommended location-based service
) checkins so I can visualize how some of the decisions I’ve made about the places I go – food, bars, cafes – may be impacting my weight gain/loss over time.
The interface is still quite spartan but the data seeds are there for some really interesting behavior analysis. I can’t wait to see where they take this service (they’re already teasing a Top Healthy & Unhealthy Places feature)
Sign up and keep an eye on Tonight.im.

From a dieting PoV, not a very good idea. What you see in weight changes from day to day is mostly based on your liquid content at the time of weighing. Presenting the data like this strongly overemphasises short term fluctuation.
The Hacker's Diet (https://www.fourmilab.ch/cgi-bin/HackDiet/) has a very nice online weight-tracking feature which generates a weighted average curve of your recent data points, mathematically massaging out the fluctuations and showing you a good trend.
It would be interesting to think about how one could fix this mashup to put less emphasis on short-term fluctuation and single-day decisions. If a number of locations could be tagged as “indulgences”, i.e. places one goes to procure the good foodstuffs, and if the number of visits per week to indulgences could be compared to the general trend for that week, maybe that would be more useful.
I tried signing up to test out the alpha version but apparently just got put on a list. Any suggestions for getting off the list and into the service?
I don't know the developer so sadly I don't have an in there. I imagine the list will move quickly though.
Thanks anyway.
