+ iPhone SDK - what will it be?

As Apple’s SDK announcement draws closer, let the speculation begin… John Gruber of Daring Fireball has a good piece up about the upcoming event and what may or may not be announced.

Recently I’ve been thinking about what my expectations are but rather than be practical, let me say what I really want them to announce: access to the camera as well as the pseudo-GPS on the device for all! Back to reality…

In regards to applications, I expect them to announce a few Apple-built applications (a native Contacts app, a Tasks app, Hello?!), a few “preferred” partners (something along the lines of an ESPN app, a Twitter app, a Backpack app) and then finally a few examples of how they’re empowering the “little guys” to build apps in their garage and sell them on iTunes (so we all feel warm and fuzzy about the endless possibilities this Celestial SDK will offer).

Sadly, these wants and predictions were hatched before they scaled back the content of the event from a more fully-fleshed-out SDK to a “roadmap” for what it could someday be. With that in mind, I fully expect to be disappointed this Thursday (but hopefully not forever).
